Title: Ghostbusters
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Paul Feig
Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon
Runtime: 1 hr 56 mins

What It Is: Erin Gilbert (Wiig) and Abby Yates (McCarthy) wrote a book about ghosts and the paranormal, a book that when coupled with a video of a perceived paranormal incident cost Erin her career. Now she’s reconnecting with Abby who has a new partner in Jillian Holtzmann (McKinnon) who’s a kooky engineer. These three will try to track down and capture paranormal entities. To be short they have some ghosts to bust. So when your home gets haunted who ya gunna call?

What We Think: Oh wow! This movie is awful! Not only do none of the jokes really hit but I never found amusement in the situations. This script is a mess that is for sure. Director Feig had a hand in that as well. There’s honestly just nothing to this and comes off as a shallow facade of the classic 80’s staple. This is not to say the ladies were bad because they, well they really weren’t bad they were just inconsistent. You have four different actresses offering four different performances that never feel like they’re even near each other. These very funny ladies deserve better than this.

Our Grade: D, Skip it if you can, see it only if you really must. These ladies aren’t given anything to work with outside of awful CGI characters who look entirely fake or each other. As mentioned previously that as well is a problem, since you know, they are all doing their own thing. I cannot recommend this, I mean obviously! Should’ve given it an even lower score for wasting Slimer. How dare you, Paul Feig! This is no Spy or Bridesmaids! That much is quite true. We’ll have to see what Feig does next. I have a feeling it’ll be better than this!
