Director: Alberto Corredor
Starring: Oliver Walker, Natalie Oliver, Julian Seager
Runtime: 15 mins
What It Is: An award-winning short film about a man seeking answers that he can only find through a witch who has the ability to, for a fee, bring back the dead.
What We Think: From a visual standpoint, the cinematography does such a great job for the lack of light necessary to convey eeriness, creepiness, and the descent down the rabbit hole. Both the protagonist and antagonist were cast so well, the sheer terror from actress Natalie Oliver made my skin crawl. From beginning to just about the end, it feels like something is going to jump out from the screen, you just don’t know when it’s going to happen. This is a rollercoaster ride of emotions that keeps you on the edge of your seat. In fact, once it ends, right after the moment of relief from not being subjected to seeing a creature like the woman from The Grudge (2004), it leaves you wanting more. This is definitely a “you got me good” film. With only £3,000 (roughly $4,000 USD), director Alberto Corredor and the experts from ShortsTV, did an amazing job bringing writer, Lorcan Reilly’s, story to life.
Our Grade: A, Not to take away from the quality of this film, but it’s set up mimics that of a standup comedian who only has 15 minutes to take us on a journey before blowing our minds with a witty well thought out closer that we didn’t see coming. This could have easily been a horror film and to take you from feeling like you have to prep for weeklong nightmares to humor and relief is not something you’re used to finding in a short film. So stop everything you’re doing and go watch it!
