Title: Human Lost

What It Is: In a deathless future, a man enters a restricted area and becomes involved in a violent struggle.

What We Think: Beautiful yet could be better. Coming from someone who is a huge fan of animation, this film was visually stunning and the animation was absolutely incredible! The colors were vibrant and the music worked really well in conjunction with the graphics and storyline. However, this story lacked character development as well as plot development for me. The storyline was not bad however it felt as though it lacked consistency. The storyline just felt as if it were going in numerous directions and seemed to change course with the characters a lot. I also would have liked to gain more backstory on some of the characters. It was clear that the character of Yozo Oba was troubled with terrifying dreams and struggles with inner demons. However, it would have been appreciated to really understand how why Yozo Oba was so different from the other characters in terms of DNA. Was he born different or is was the difference in DNA due to some kind of scientific experimenting? As far as I am aware, these aspects of his character were not explored or clarified in any way. I also had the same questions in regard to the character of Yoshiko. Why was her DNA different from everyone else’s and why was her touch the only way to help Yozo Oba heal from his alternate self? Had the story gone into this a bit further, the movie would have been less confusing.

Our Grade: B+, The film is definitely a beautifully animated film which in some ways reminded me of Studio Ghibli films however as mentioned previously, this film would have been much better had the storyline and characters been developed more.
