Title: Save Yourselves!
MPAA Rating: NR
Director: Alex Huston Fischer, Eleanor Wilson
Starring: Sunita Mani, John Reynolds, Amy Sedaris
Runtime: 1 hr 33 mins

What It Is: Su (Mani) and Jack (Reynolds) are a young hipster couple overwhelmed by their busy lives and are constantly distracted by their phones. Wanting a break from modern stresses, the two carry on to a cabin going cold-turkey on anything electronic, only to quickly find themselves and the world around them spinning when under attack by extraterrestrial forces.

What We Think: As a sci-fi comedy, this really worked. The cast members (namely our two leads) are uber-charming and so much fun to watch. The progression of the story is really great, though it starts off kind of slow with the plot (and especially the jokes) it really starts heating up. I couldn’t help but let loose some chuckles and laughter once the second act got rolling and the characters attempt to brave their strange new world that they realize they are totally unequipped for. And in that way, it was totally believable. A lot of us (Americans, at least) are used to technology and jobs and housing, we’re used to a certain standard, which doesn’t necessarily include combat and survival. We’d be totally unequipped too; that point makes it all the more intense, relatable, and hilarious to see these people used to their cushy sort of life suddenly scrambling.

Our Grade: B, This has enough spunk and heart to spare. I would be be up for a rewatch for sure. It’s a creative, modern little comedy that shows improvement and evolution in this new era of better understanding and representing our relationship with all the advantages we have available in this day and age and the humor that comes from us having adapted to them.
