Title: That’s Amor
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Shaun Paul Piccinino
Starring: Riley Dandy, Isaac Gonzalez Rossi, Nancy Lenehan
Runtime: 1 hr 36 mins

What It Is: As her thirtieth birthday approach Sofia (Dandy) feels like she’s at a dead end. She hates her job and when she goes to her boss to express that maybe she’d like a promotion or career change her boss agrees and fires her. Now she’s back at her moms house following her boyfriend cheating on her and the aforementioned job issues. When she takes a Spanish cooking class it’s more than the kitchen that’s getting hot.

What We Think: Very standard fair. It’s a Netflix RomCom. The boy meets the girl they fall for one and other rinse and repeat. Except this one has Spanish cooking. The reality here is Riley Dandy’s charisma as Sofia is the only thing worth staying for. This doesn’t challenge the audience. This doesn’t do anything except give you something to fill your time and for that it has some value. Need a mind-numbing piece to listen to while you yourself make some tapas of your own? This film is perfect for this. Outside of these very mundane reasons and circumstances…not much to do here. Enjoy. Be happy, believe in love. *Shrug*

Our Grade: C-, When something is as mediocre as this we have to grade it out as such. This is about as standard and unassuming as film can get. After I was done with it I didn’t feel fulfilled, but I wasn’t in an incredibly bad mood. I suppose that’s an accomplishment. Leaving me nonplussed. I find that Netflix tends to be a lot like Willy Wonka’s Factory in a lot of ways. They pump out cinematic confections by the truckload. Empty calories that serve only to give us the saccharin fix we need to get us through the day. Its on Netflix if you want that celluloid candy.
