What It Is: Oklahoma native Jackie (O’Brian) has hitchhiked herself all the way to New Mexico. Now she’s working at a gun range owned by Lou (Harris). It’s when the rather muscular Jackie meets gym worker Lou (Stewart) that things start to pick up as Jackie starts to work toward her goal of a competing in a bodybuilding championship in Las Vegas. But Lou Sr. is quite the vicious and corrupt man and won’t just allow things to be what they are.

What We Think: This movie is phenomenal. Rose Glass has such a unique eye. Look no further than her scorching debut Saint Maud. She has a way of simplifying her storytelling. Making the weirdest and craziest concept easily and highly digestible. She is going to be part of the batch of new directors who make whatever the hell they want and it’s going to fuck. It’s going to do so really hard. O’Brian and Stewart are absolutely electric here and honestly make the best iteration of a modern Bonnie and Clyde I’ve seen in a film in quite some time. This is violent and sexy and absolutely something that audiences looking for that A24 flavor will fully adore.

Our Grade: A, What a phenomenal films thus truly is. I can’t overstate how weird and wonderful a story it has here. Likewise the decisions from Rose Glass are exactly what people going into this film will both love and expect. Check this one out. It’s a film I thought I might like, I do not like. I, in fact, LOVE this one. From the odd script to the great performances all around it’s one of 2024’s first truly phenomenal pictures.
