Title: Mark, Mary & Some Other People
MPAA Rating: Not Yet Rated
Director: Hannah Marks
Starring: Ben Rosenfield, Hayley Law, Sofia Bryant
Runtime: 1 hr 30 mins

What It Is: Mark (Rosenfield) and Mary (Law) are newlyweds. They want to spice up their relationship with a discussion about perhaps participating in something more akin to ethical non-monogamy. When they begin to do this emotions arise and unforeseen…sort of…consequences begin to take shape. All pointing to the fact that maybe just maybe they weren’t yet ready for this entire thing. That maybe it IS better when it’s just the two of them.

What We Think: I adored this film. Not only is it one of my favorite films of the year it’s also one of the funniest films of the year. The chemistry between our leads is impecabble and you can really tell that the two of them were clicking with not just each other but the material. Speaking of the material Hannah Marks also wrote the film and it is a script that feels like conversations amongst friends. It’s the utilization of real venacular that makes the whole thing feel authentic. The music in this is awesome! Shout out to Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy for putting it together. There’s something to be said for romantic comedies that transcend their time and both speak to when it was filmed as well as universally. This does that and I think it’ll be one we go back to, look back on and say…that’s dating/marriage in 2021. It’s a film that speaks to everyone in and around my age. The issues and problems the characters face are ones we’ve either dealt with or hope we won’t have to. There’s a true sense of reality. It’s beautifully shot film and the slight hand by Marks makes it even more deft to the eye.

Our Grade: A-, This is a day one check this out. It’s hilarious, its real and I really am of the belief that you’ll all love it. Hannah Marks has a future as a director. Her eye is so sharp and vision focused. She knew exactly what she wanted to make. Even if each shot wasn’t fully realized. Rosenfield and Law are two actors I look forward to seeing more from. Check this one out when it hits yours screens. Be sure to check out our interviews with Hannah Marks and the two leads Ben Rosenfield and Hayley Law.
