Title: M3GAN
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Gerard Johnstone
Starring: Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald
Runtime: 1 hr 42 mins

What It Is: Cady (McGraw) is a young girl who’s been through something very traumatic. It led to the deaths of her mom and dad. Now she’s staying with her toy designer/engineer aunt Gemma (Williams) home and Gemma has just the thing any little girl could want…a best friend. With the invention M3GAN (Donald) an ai controlled robot doll that’s just about Cady’s size. But something is desperately wrong with M3GAN and her over-protective…to the point of murderous intent is on full display.

What We Think: Schlock, trash, this film is many things. One of those is damn entertaining. It’s a hard film to gauge because I liked it more than I did Malignant. Most of the stupidity in this film stem from the ridiculous premise. Violet McGraw is annoying as Cady and she’s supposed to be. Allison Williams is blissfully stupid as Gemma. Like…as an engineer she should be smart enough to install fail safes that can’t easily be overwritten by the AI itself. Story issues aside it’s a fun time to sit through if we’re being honest and sometimes with horror that’s all you can ask for.

Our Grade: C+, A bonkers viewing experience is what I wanted. A bonkers viewing experience is what I got. Working as a modern version of Child’s Play when it goes for that it totally works. Nonetheless horror fans will probably like this regardless of what this humble snob says. If you’re not a horror fan than FOR SURE you’re going to hate this thing. Hell I didn’t really like this film as much as this somewhat positive review would indicate. It’s easy to find as it is on VOD now at this point. If it interests you check it out but you’ve been warned.
