Title: The Boogeyman
MPA Rating: PG-13
Director: Rob Savage
Starring: Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair
Runtime: 1 hr 38 mins

What It Is: Sadie (Thatcher) and Sawyer (Blair) Harper are going through it after the death of their mother. Their psychiatrist father Will (Messina) is as well, though he’ll never admit it. And now of all thing an entity of unknown origin has decided to make them it’s next victims and it uses the dark as it’s cover. As it’s power, as it’s strength. It knows that Sadie and her family are hurting and it wants to take them out one by one. Whatever it is.

What We Think: I expected a run of the mill crap fest from this PG-13 horror romp. The worst thing about it was the audience. This isn’t a movie that you go in shocked by. You know what’s going to happen and mostly how it’s going to play out. But damn it’s pretty fun and entertaining and often, in horror, that’s all you can ask for. This is one big ole dumb horror film. I liked it. A fact I found utterly surprising. I went in with low expectations and that certainly helped.

Our Grade: C+, A perfectly sufficient piece. If you like horror and want the mild salsa instead of the hot this’ll do that. If you want something more intense or gory there are other films out this year like Evil Dead Rise or another film we’ll be reviewing very soon. In the meantime I definitely give this film a slight recommend as it is about as good as PG-13 horror is bound to get in this year of our lord 2023. Frankly speaking there aren’t a whole lot of other great options. Just…stay away from teenagers in theaters because they (you) suck terribly badly and almost complete ruined my experience with this film. Ya bunch of heathens!
