Title: Late NIght With the Devil
MPA Rating: R
Director: Cameron Cairnes, Colin Cairnes
Starring: David Dastmalchian, Laura Gordon, Ingrid Torelli
Runtime: 1 hr 33 mins

What It Is: Late night host Jack Delroy (Dastmalchian) is on top of the world. Even if he isn’t on top of the ratings (thanks Johnny!). When his shows rating begin to struggle Jack will do what he needs to to try and take that top spot from Johnny Carson. Halloween 1977, Jack does something unprecedented. He brings a doctor and her young patient on to the show. The young woman, named Lilly (Torelli) was born into a satanic cult. Now, on live TV, Jack will try to have Lilly commune with the demon within her. What happens next is television history.

What We Think: A killer film. It, simply put, nails the ’70s aesthetic. From the production design to the costumes and music. Even the film stock itself has this overlay of ’70s all over it. It simultaneously has this malaise and doom over the entire affair. What makes this film so fun is that at no point do they break the illusion of what is happening. The entire time we are bought in. A lot of this comes from Dastmalchian’s incredible lead performance. It’s so nice to see him in the lead role. Something long overdue frankly.

Our Grade: A-, A truly tremendous period piece horro flick! Shudder continues to show that they understand and acknowledge who, and what they are. They are THEE place for the horror genre. Top to bottom, any festival we’ve attended all of the “best” of the festival in regards to horror end up being bought by Shudder. That said, go see this. It will be a film that’ll get a cult following and won’t “light up” anything amongst the genre fans. For me though, it worked. It worked very well for me. A truly excellent horror/thriller that’s suspenseful and ripe with enough cool moments.
