What It Is: When the Boov, an alien race known for running away from there enemy the Grog invade Earth they decide to relocate all the humans to Australia. Among those humans is the mother of a young girl named Tip (Rhianna). Whens her mother is abducted and taken to Human Happyland (Australia) Tip is alone in her own home. When she meets up with an outcast Boov named Oh (Parsons) the out couple must try to escape the Boov’s hunting them and try to return Tip to her mother. In Dreamworks newest animated feature we get a little girl lost on a big planet

What We Think: First and foremost the voice work here is severely disappointing. Rhianna does not sound like a ten year old living in a post alien invasion world. She doesn’t convey emotion at all. What made a film like Pixar’s Inside Out so special is the thing that this film lacks…an emotional core. Outside of the pastel colors and loud noises there’s nothing to the film. Irritating voice acting just propels this into awful, and closer to the kiddie section with no hope of an adult audience.

Our Grade: D-, It’s not a total failure but it is Oh (no pun intended) so very close. This film doesn’t do anything new or original, and even it’s imitation of other films is poorly done. Luckily we’ve been blessed with other animated films that are far more original in both storytelling and structure. I’m going to go ahead and not recommend you waste your own nor your children’s time with this subpar Dreamworks film. Doing so will make you all the dumber for having experienced it. So no, do not rent this film unless you plan to turn it on for a group of 3 to 7 year olds as background noise.
