Title: Burying the Ex
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Joe Dante
Starring: Anton Yelchin, Ashley Greene, Alexandra Daddario
Runtime: 1 hr 39 mins

What It Is: Max (Yelchin) is a young man who likes two things his loving girlfriend Evelyn (Greene) and horror movies! However Evelyn and Max haven’t been getting along very much lately, during a period of making up they accidentally wish they could be together forever. Innocent enough right? That is until Evelyn dies in a bus accident. After her death Max tries to get over her, with that come a little theatre therapy. When he meets the lovely ice cream parlor owner Olivia (Daddario) the two hit it off. Only one problem for Max however, it seems Evelyn is undead and kicking.

What We Think: This is really just not that great of a film. In fact the best part of it was the awesome song by The Kobanes that plays during the closing credits. From an acting perspective there isn’t anything here that reinvents the wheel. In fact, if not for a poor script this might’ve been a much better movie. As it stands it’s mediocre. Anton Yelchin is likable as is Daddario’s character. Having said that Ashley Greene’s character pre and post mortem is supremely irritating, and just a huge bitch throughout.

Our Grade: C-, I didn’t hate the film as much as many MANY others whom have reviewed did. I feel as though you can feel Joe Dante’s former excellence all over this film. It’s just that this isn’t the right film to display that at all. I’d say see it, but only if you yourself are an avid horror fan. You might appreciate some of the references made within the film. I have high hopes that Dante will discover the spark that lead to him being a hitmaker back in the 80’s.
