Title: The Emoji Movie
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Tony Leondis
Starring: T.J. Miller, James Corden, Anna Fairs
Runtime: 1 hr 26 min
What It Is: The Emoji Movie is a brand new animated film that is about Gene, a emoji who has multiple expressions wanting to be normal and goes on an adventure with Jailbreak (Fairs) and Hi-5 (Corden). While on the adventure they discover a dangerous threat that could threaten Textopolis’s very existence.

What We Think: I can honestly say that the Emoji Movie is one if not the worst animated movie ever. It tries to be a new and fresh animated movie but flops so hard on its face. The movie shamelessly rips off other animated movies like Wreck It Ralph and Inside Out and tries to be them. For a kids movie, this film is very boring. Nothing fun happens, Nothing exciting happens and you just left with an uninteresting movie that you cant get invested in. The characters themselves are beyond generic and flat out dull. They have nothing new to them and feel very redone and rehashed. I could say the same for the plot. The plot follows a generic path and nothing fun happens or anything attention worthy. The animation is good and that’s just about the only good thing about it. Gene’s character was not interesting and it wasn’t fun to see what he does. Hi-5 was annoying and really bugged me. His jokes weren’t funny and most of his lines were cringe-inducing. Speaking of jokes, I didn’t laugh at all in this movie. None of the jokes land and you’ve heard all of them before so there’s nothing really to laugh at. Overall this film is boring, dull, unfunny and yet it still got green lit and was put out in theaters.

Our Grade: F, This movie is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It fails on every level and it probably won’t even entertain kids. All that being said, I despise this movie and would recommend you go see Dunkirk or just about anything else.
