Review: Baby Driver

Title: Baby Driver
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Edgar Wright
Starring: Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey
Runtime: 1 hr 52 mins

What It Is: When crime leader Doc (Spacey) arranges his heists he never uses the same team twice, with the exception of his getaway driver Baby (Elgort). Baby suffers from tinnitus. This makes his ears constantly ring. To drown out the ringing Baby always has his earphones in and playing some sort of music. It’s what makes him an incredible driver. When he falls for waitress Deborah (James) he now has something to live for and is reconsidering his life of crime.

What We Think: This is just a whole lot of fun! Elgort gives a star-making turn and Edgar Wright is literally all over this film. No other director could have crafted this as lovingly as the man behind the three flavors Cornetto trilogy. Contained in here is an incredible soundtracking, including a song by The FREAKING Damned! It backs some incredible driving and some sinister performances from the likes of Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, Jon Hamm and of course Kevin Spacey. It’s hard to pinpoint having more fun in a theater than I did right here. Man, that soundtrack is great!

Our Grade: A+, It is and may remain a film I look to when I say this is what makes movies fun. It is also JUST quirky and intelligent enough to hold court for even the pickiest of movie-goer. Some of the driving in this just insane. Obviously, it’s a given that I recommend this film. Don’t see it tomorrow, not even later today…see it now! As cliche as that sounds you should totally do it! Also, Ansel Elgort definitely has a future when you look at this and The Fault in Our Stars. Looking forward to his next venture.
