Title: KPop Demon Hunters
MPA Rating: PG
Director: Chris Applehans, Maggie Kang
Starring: Arden Cho, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo
Runtime: 1 hr 35 mins
What It Is: Rumi (Cho), Mira (Hong), and Zoey (Yoo) make up K-pop supergroup Huntrix. They are without a doubt the biggest music superstars in Korea. They also happen to be demon hunters, keeping the world safe from dark forces. When a nefarious group of demons disguise themselves as the boy band Saja Boys, they attempt to charm the world into accepting them—all while stealing souls to grow their influence. Meanwhile, Rumi must also confront her own personal demons.
What We Think: Wow. This is a fantastic film. The soundtrack is filled with catchy songs that normally wouldn’t be my thing—but every single track here is an absolute banger. Whether it’s Huntrix or the Saja Boys performing, the music lands every time. The animation is crisp, fluid, and gorgeous—truly stunning work. Sony has a real winner here. It’s a shame it didn’t get a theatrical release, because this feels tailor-made for parents to take their kids to see two or three times. Sony definitely left money on the table. Still, the awards potential is strong—Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature nominations feel almost inevitable.
Our Grade: A. Excellent. Just excellent. Fun, catchy music pairs with a familiar but effective story that still works beautifully. Friendship is magic in the end, and frankly, I’m here for it. For me, this is the best animated film I’ve seen in 2025 so far—a wonderful picture that’s endlessly rewatchable (and for parents, WILL be rewatched endlessly). Netflix has scored a major hit with this, but I can’t help wondering what Sony was thinking by not putting this in theaters and then re-releasing it later with a sing-along version.
