Title: Happy Gilmore 2
MPA Rating: PG-13
Director: Kyle Newacheck
Starring: Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald
Runtime: 1 hr 54 mins

What It Is: After an accident on the golf course leaves former professional golfer Happy Gilmore (Sandler) a widower raising several children, life gets tough. Now, as Gilmore’s youngest daughter shows promise as a dancer, Happy decides to dust off the Bruins jersey and head back to the PGA Tour. When a wealthy business mogul, Frank Manatee (Benny Safdie), makes him an offer he can’t refuse—he refuses it anyway. Soon, Happy finds himself in a position to save the very sport that once shunned him but now adores him.

What We Think: Yeah… sometimes the past should stay buried. There was absolutely no reason to revisit this film outside of the obvious cash grab. Sandler is clearly doing this for the paycheck (and not in the “it’s his job” sense). The passion to make something worthwhile just isn’t here. It’s a film built for the digital age—cameo stacked and meme ready—but entirely devoid of heart or humor. For a movie billed as a comedy, the total lack of laughs is a fatal flaw. Ultimately, it’s pointless drivel.

Our Grade: D+, This won’t be without an audience. Comedies, especially Adam Sandler comedies, always find their fans—but sadly, I’m no longer one of them. I think the last truly great “Adam Sandler-style” comedy was Big Daddy, and even that’s debatable. I can’t in good conscience recommend this. It’s vapid, lazy, and far too silly for its own good. If you’re into that, fine—but for me, this was a complete miss.

If you gather interest it is on Netflix. Feel free to click the link below to watch it.
