Review: Carolina Caroline

Title: Carolina Caroline
MPA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Adam Rehmeier
Starring: Kyle Gallner, Samara Weaving, Kyra Sedgwick
Runtime: 1 hr 47 mins

What It Is: Caroline (Weaving) gets mixed up with charming and charismatic con man Oliver (Gallner). He teaches her the ins and outs of being a con man. When they accelerate their cons to include bank robbery everything begins to spiral out of their control. All the while she’s looking for something from someone she never knew. A thing that’ll hopefully fill the void that’s been there her whole life. Perhaps the longest con Oliver is pulling is making Caroline fall in love with him.

What We Think: Adam Rehmeier directs like he’s running out of time. Everything here is at a breakneck speed. Thankfully that works spectacularly. Rehmeier is rejoined by his Dinner in America lead Kyle Gallner and the two once again work so well together. Adding a talented actress like Samara Weaving to the mix is never a bad thing. She and Gallner have some really electric chemistry. I do hope that Rehmeier continues to work with Gallner. He’s always a dude that brings his absolute A-game in whatever role he’s in. Here he truly embodies the con man charm and Rehmeier’s lens gets it all with aplomb. I love this guy. Also…you owe Chai a fiver my dude.

Our Grade: B, The attitude that Rehmeier makes his films with is a refreshing one. He doesn’t give two fucks about my opinion or anyone else’s on his films and it is with that attitude that I go into watching his films. It’s also why his last three films have all been positively reviewed. There’s a nihilism to his movies and with that I will obviously be giving you a recommendation. See this one. I think most will really enjoy it.
