Title: The Tomorrow War
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Chris McKay
Starring: Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons
Runtime: 2 hrs 18 mins

What It Is: Dan Forester (Pratt) is a mild-mannered high school science teacher. One day the world changes. A war has started with an unknown alien species. When the technology is discovered that allows future generations 21 years in the future to travel back to our present day and send a warning it’s one that humanity heeds. Sending into the warzone those that will already be dead when the events in their reality occur. But will they be able to defeat this unknown foe and save the human race?

What We Think: I would like to start by saying that about 75% of this films script is fake sci-fi nonsense. That should immediately tell you that I found this film insufferable. Chris Pratt has been in a lot of big budget films after breaking out with Guardians of the Galaxy. This one is a mess. It loses track of its own threads throughout and since there’s timetravel it relies on the fact that half the time that doesn’t make a lick of sense. The script and overall structure are…questionable. So questionable in fact that I really don’t have words to tangibly describe what is happening throughout.

Our Grade: D+, Sure it’s fun popcorn garbage but that only works if you get a big screen release. As an Amazon Prime film this doesn’t really work that way. Instead you are given the luxury of being confused in your own household. Not a lot could save this film in it’s current state from the negative review I am giving it, unfortunately. Pratt isn’t charming enough to hold this together and for a concept like this the film takes itself too seriously. It’s a skip for me.
