Title: Egghead & Twinkie
MPA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Sarah Kambe Holland
Starring: Sabrina Jieafa, Louis Tomeo, Asahi Hirano
Runtime: 1 hr 27 mins

What It Is: Twinkie Harris (Jieafa) is a young woman coming to terms with her sexuality. She’s certain she’s a lesbian but isn’t sure how to come out to her parents. When she finally does—and the reaction isn’t positive—she turns to her best friend, Egghead (Tomeo), for support.

The two set out on a road trip under somewhat dubious circumstances. What Egghead doesn’t know, however, is the real reason behind their destination. And when he finds out, he may not take it very well.

What We Think: I love a good road trip film—and even more when it has a fair bit of quirk to it. This one has a visual identity that I found so freaking charming. Sabrina Jieafa and Louis Tomeo have great chemistry as best friends, and Sarah Kambe Holland is destined to be a star behind the lens. I’m so thankful I got some time with them. This is the kind of cinema independent filmmakers need to see—and aspire to make. A film with a unique, interesting look that still maintains a narrative strong enough to hold you throughout.

Our Grade: A-, This bad boy is available on Tubi—click the Watch Now link below. I highly recommend it. I had such a great time watching this one. The highest compliment I can give any film is that I found it to be an enjoyable experience throughout. With charming lead performances and a strong—if raw—piece of direction, this film turns out to be a subtle, wonderful little flick. See it. It’s worth your time, and at only 87 minutes, it won’t take up much of your day. But it just might be exactly what you need to brighten it—or even lift it into something better.
