What It Is: It’s the early 2000s and 15-year-old Sam (Best) has bonded with a young man over the internet. They have the same favorite (and about to be canceled) show and most of their conversations center on that. Her older sister Dylan (Colletti) is going through it with her on again off again band playing boyfriend. When Dylan’s ex just so happens to be playing a show in the same city Sam’s crush resides in the two sisters make it a road trip. One they weren’t supposed to be on.

What We Think: I really love the evolution the sisters go through in this. Their relationship ebbing and flowing with each scene and set piece they’re put in. It tests that bond siblings inherently have with one another. Kate Cobb. Bravo dude. I love what you’ve put together here. Getting honest performances that felt real out of these young actresses. Having the camera in cool and sometimes weird places. Shot selection was very good. The script felt a bit on the procedural side. As the action unfolded there weren’t really many surprises in the story that you don’t see coming. Autumn Best and Zoe Colletti have incredibly good chemistry with one another. And that is the centerpiece of this film.

Our Grade: B, I really enjoyed this. It was a fascinating bit of nostalgia for me. I loved being a teenager in the early and mid 2000s. My experience was slightly different but the experience here brought me back into that place and time. A lot of things go into making that happen, production design being chief among them. Everything from the MSN messenger screen to the style of clothing and Dylan’s car screamed time and place. This is the second film this year to take me back to that time period. We will get to that review soon. This film really did an excellent job in executing its primary goal of taking us to the exact place we needed to be for the context. For those of us that were around then this was a great reminder of that time.
