Title: The Ghost in the Machine
MPAA Rating: Not Yet Rated
Director: Valerie Veatch
Starring: Artificial Intelligence
Runtime: 1 hr 50 mins
What It Is: A documentary about the history of AI. It tracks its origins and how it developed into the popular monster it is today. It starts from how eugenics developed, how that influenced Silicon Valley, and how Silicon Valley bases its programming and philosophies off eugenics.
What We Think: So, this was such an interesting watch. I went in under the impression that this would be a pro-AI movie. I think that’s partially because at the festival, it didn’t seem like there was a lot of info on it, and I honestly went to this one because, at the moment, the line wasn’t full. I rolled into the theater, ready to roast this movie with marshmallows over a spit, and came out a roaring champion of it. That’s because this is the opposite of a pro-AI film. In fact, I would argue this movie is the most anti-AI thing I’ve ever seen.
Dear god, this film is so informative on everything AI, revealing all the skeletons in Silicon Valley’s closet. From links to eugenics, to the racism of Silicon Valley’s founders, to the exploitation of workers in developing countries, to how data centers destroy the land.
If you still like AI after watching this movie, I don’t want to know you.
The history of Silicon Valley is grimy, and it’s laid out for all to see here, and it’s disgusting. I was captivated from beginning to end because this documentary laid out everything there is to know about the development of AI. It shows why tech mogul giants are quintessentially Wall Street Part Two. Also, the amount of blatant racism going on in Silicon Valley was astonishing. These people believe in eugenics and should never be trusted. AI is a scam that is actively destroying the world, and data centers need to be dismantled as soon as possible.
Our Grade: A, This documentary was really well made. I think it covered every possible base, including why our government, under the criminal known as Trump, is embracing this new technology. It was fascinating. I do think I was probably the only person in the theater who thought that movie was so groundbreaking (I was the only one who clapped at the end), but to hell with the other audience members. I truly believe this was one of the best films of the festival. Required watch for everyone. Litmus test for who has a heart and who doesn’t.
