What It Is: George Hardy (Jackman) is a shepherd in a small town. He loves his sheep and doesn’t care much for people. He normally reads them murder mysteries nightly. When he is suddenly murdered upon the arrival of his American daughter Rebecca (Gordon) the biggest question is now…whodunit? Officer Tim Derry is a bumbling local police officer in charge of finding the answer to that exact question. With the help of some sheepish assistance he may very well solve this thing.
What We Think: What a terrific little film. I was left stunned by how beautiful this whole ordeal was. Hugh Jackman isn’t in a ton of this film, but he does an admirable job building George into someone sympathetic even after his character’s gone. I miss when movies had wacky hijinks. That’s where this entire movie is thriving. From talking sheep to bumbling small town cops, to a veritable smorgasbord of townsfolk silliness to choose from, the charm is in no small supply. I was left with such a warm, positive feeling after this film. It’s just not the type of thing we get enough of nowadays.
Our Grade: A, This is one of the easiest recommends I could give honestly. Even the biggest of cynics will enjoy this and find joy in it. Give me some more stuff like this. Something genuine in its sincerity and coming from a place a lot of films just do not. I think by this time it’s available on Prime Video in the United States. I would settle up with the whole family in front of your nearest television for this. Though if you saw it in theaters, that was the real treat.
