What It Is: Nate (Quaid) has a rare nervous system condition that makes him incapable of feeling pain. He has to be extremely careful—even with something as simple as eating—because he could accidentally bite off his own tongue.

Outside of that, Nate is a mild-mannered assistant bank manager who’s quietly smitten with his coworker, bank teller Sherry (Midthunder).

But when the bank is robbed and Sherry is taken hostage, Nate makes it his mission to get her back—by any means necessary.

What We Think: Sometimes, you just want a fun action flick. This action comedy does just enough to hold your interest for its nearly two-hour runtime.

Quaid’s charm is on full display here, and it totally works. Without it, the film probably would’ve fallen flat on its face.

Lars Jacobson’s script is straightforward, and the plot isn’t anything groundbreaking—but it’s the delivery that makes it worthwhile.

There are some genuinely fun action scenes. Things get unhinged and gory, and that’s really where the film shines.

Some playful banter between Nate and his only real friend—an online buddy named Roscoe (played nicely by Jacob Batalon)—adds a few interesting and entertaining moments.

Our Grade: B+, It’s always a fun time when a film like this comes along—something easily digestible and well made.

I’m giving this a big-time recommendation. I had so much fun with it.

One of the things I truly respect—no, appreciate—about this film is that it knows exactly what it is. It’s not trying to be some game-changing, life-altering piece of art.

Give it a watch. It’s a great movie to enjoy with friends or family—especially if you have slightly older kids, like I do.

Seriously, give it a watch.
