Title: Lulu and the Electric Dreamboat
MPA Rating: Note Rated
Director: Michael Casey, Paddy Murphy
Starring: Sinead Morrissey, Michael Casey, Steve J. Palmer
Runtime: 1 hr 48 mins

What It Is: Mark (Casey) is a punk rocker—or at least, he thinks he is.

When he meets Lulu (Morrissey), a girl from his school, he’s instantly smitten. She won’t admit it, but the feeling’s mutual.

As the two begin to form a relationship, they also dive into making music together—probably the most romantic thing two people can do.

Will their relationship flourish? Will love bloom? Or are they just not the right match for each other?

What We Think: This is… sufficiently fine.

It’s an odd film to gauge because, at first, the acting feels so bad and cringeworthy—but as the story unfolds, you start to understand what they were going for.

There’s a certain level of deliberate cringe I can tolerate. This one teetered on insufferable at times.

Whatever they’re doing here does work occasionally—especially when the film just focuses on being what it is, instead of swinging for some obscure brand of stupidity.

When it leans into the romance and its characters, it shines. But when it chases too many laughs through awkwardness, it really starts to wear thin.

Our Grade: C+, I mean… it’s a hard sell of a film. It’s so awkward and weird, and there are plenty of moments I just didn’t like at all.

I honestly can’t give it a strong recommendation because I don’t quite know what the hell it’s trying to be—or who it’s even for.

I think I’m part of the target audience, but honestly, I want no part of this.

If the film’s odd nature strikes your fancy, then by all means—check it out.

But for me, it’s a skip, even if it’s technically a passable film.
