What It Is: Corvette (Palmer) and her best friends Mariah (Page) and Sade (Ackie) are what is known as boosters. They shoplift clothing from brand names and resell these clothes at a fraction of the price to those in their neighborhood. One of the biggest targets of Corvette’s theft is designer Christie Smith (Demi Moore). As she realizes that she’s clearly the target she begins to try and find out more about these thieves and Corvette wants to know more about the woman they are stealing from.
What We Think: Trying to describe this film is quite the test. I don’t want to give you too much and I can’t be too vague on this because then you wouldn’t be interested. Let’s get to the fun part about this one. Keke Palmer was meant to work with Boots Riley. This film is honestly insane. It’s not a normal level of insane, it’s as crazy as Riley’s previous film Sorry to Bother You. I cannot even begin to tell you the why of the craziness. What I can say is that the chemistry and comedy are both off the Richter scale. There’s a scene in this that is so absurd, so odd and weird that I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The writing is nothing short of refreshing. It’s a brave and bold script that is not afraid to take chances and paired with Riley’s direction just allows him to play around in spaces and forms we’ve not seen him do before.
Our Grade: A, Man. If you’ve not seen Riley’s first movie this one is going to throw you through a loop. If you have I still don’t really think you can fully prepare for this one. Either way what you get is one of 2026’s fun little surprises, and a fantastic comedy that’s sure to have you as confused as you are laughing. Check this one out as soon as you can! It’s a truly awesome film.
