Title: Green Night
MPA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Shuai Han
Starring: Bingbing Fan, Lee Joo-young, Kim Young Ho
Runtime: 1 hr 32 mins

What It Is: Jingxia (Fan), a Chinese woman living in Korea, longs to escape her loveless marriage. One day, while working as airport security, she encounters a mysterious girl with green hair (Joo-young). Before she knows it, Jingxia finds herself racing through the streets of Seoul, helping the enigmatic stranger move a stash of drugs that could be her long-awaited ticket to freedom.

But, as with most things in her life, nothing goes quite as planned.

What We Think: A heck of a thrill ride here. There’s a real pulse to this film, with every moment escalating into something more and more urgent. Bingbing Fan delivers a compelling performance, and it’s her on-screen evolution that drives the entire feature.

Lee Joo-young is refreshingly energetic as the enigmatic girl with green hair. Not only does she seem to be having a blast, but she’s also the catalyst for the entire story—nothing happens without her setting it into motion.

Director Shuai Han shoots this beautifully, masterfully incorporating the titular color. She gives everything a subtle green tinge, adding a unique visual style that enhances the film’s atmosphere.

Our Grade: A-,This film was such a surprise for me—I didn’t know what to expect. I don’t always watch every movie that hits my inbox, but I’m so ecstatic that I gave this one a chance. It was an exhilarating experience, unlike anything I’ve seen all year.

Even the side story about the blossoming relationship between Jingxia and the girl with green hair is captivating. The two share electric chemistry that builds up like a tea kettle—whistling, steaming, and eventually boiling over in a scene that’s sure to surprise, delivering an unexpected twist to the entire story.

A big-time recommend.
