Title: 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up
MPA Rating: Not Yet Rated
Director: James Buddy Day
Starring: Fat Mike, Eric Melvin,

What It Is: NOFX have been a punk band for like a really long time! Their lead singer and head weirdo, a man named Fat Mike, has been through it. Here, in this documentary, we follow Fat Mike as he navigates putting together the band’s final tour and dealing with what life will be after that’s all said and done. All the while we get the story of this band from the dudes who lived it.

What We Think: Clearly NOFX have made their mark on punk rock history. Whether that’s through their music, through Fat Mike’s record label Fat Wreck Chords, or as his side gig (now main gig) as a curator of Vegas’ Punk Rock Museum. If you’re a fan of NOFX this film is clearly designed for you. If you know nothing of this band you will know significantly too much about them following a viewing. I love a RocDoc, y’all know that. When it’s on a band I like to listen to that’s normally even better. It falls into some of the pitfalls that some films of this nature do but it’s reality. This stuff totally happened, just because we’ve seen it before doesn’t make it less impactful.

Our Grade: A, A very private and exclusive look at a band that even with worldwide notoriety is still relatively private. We don’t really know much about the comings and goings of the band and its members. At least until now. Now the majority of the drama and problems that have persisted and festered here are on display. None bigger than Fat Mike’s humongous addiction issues. Equal parts funny and tragic, it’s a lovely balancing act that’s sure to please both fans and those ignorant to the band equally. Check this one out whenever it hits. It’s worth it!
