Title: I Love You Forever
MPA Rating: Not Rated
Directors: Cazzie David, Elisa Kalani
Starring: Sofia Black-D’Elia, Ray Nicholson, Cazzie David
Runtime:1 hr 29 mins

What It Is: Mackenzie (Black-D’Elia) has been unlucky in love. The apps aren’t working, and the guy she’s been seeing doesn’t take them seriously—nor does he seem to want to. When she meets the charming newsman Finn (Nicholson), she’s taken aback by their chemistry. As the two explore their relationship, it’s clear that Finn cares for her—but it’s also quite clear that something isn’t right with him and his needs. What begins as something beautiful quickly devolves into something… far less healthy.

What We Think: A refreshingly real and soberingly authentic look at a relationship dynamic many have likely experienced. Sofia Black-D’Elia delivers a standout performance—she’s the heart and soul of this film, and without her earnest portrayal, there wouldn’t be much to hold onto. Cazzie David does a fantastic job as one of the unhinged best friends, adding just the right chaotic energy. Ray Nicholson brings surprising depth to his character, capturing the unsettling psyche of someone clearly unstable.

From a storytelling perspective, I really appreciated how the film was structured. Everything makes sense—character motivations are strong, and even the smaller roles are given purpose. It’s a great indie anti-romcom. It’s funny, just decidedly anti-romantic, which is totally fine—and works well here.

Our Grade: A-, I loved this! I highly recommend it to people who don’t usually enjoy romantic comedies—especially those who are jaded or skeptical about romance. At the same time, the mushy moments work well enough for RomCom fans to find something to enjoy here too.

Is it a flawless masterwork set to redefine the genre? No—but it doesn’t need to be. What this is is a fun, funny, and honest look at toxic relationships and the nature of loneliness in the modern dating scene. It’s absolutely worth spending a few coins to check out!
