Title: Paddington in Peru
MPA Rating: PG
Director: Dougal Wilson
Starring: Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Ben Whishaw
Runtime: 1 hr 46 mins

What It Is: Our marmalade-scented, fuzzy friend is back. Paddington (Whishaw) receives a letter from his aunt in Peru, and it quickly becomes urgent for him to return to the jungles of darkest Peru. Upon his arrival, he’s greeted by Reverend Mother (Olivia Colman), who informs him that his aunt has disappeared—and no one knows where she’s gone. What was meant to be a family visit soon turns into a mystery, one that will require Paddington’s entire family circle to help find his missing aunt.

What We Think: Even if Paddington in Peru is the weakest entry in the Paddington trilogy—and yes, it likely is—it remains a thoroughly wonderful and delightful cinematic experience. Ben Whishaw continues to be the perfect voice for our marmalade-loving bear, bringing warmth and charm to every line. This is exactly the kind of film families will, and absolutely should, make time for. It’s a simple joy that showcases what family films can achieve when crafted with care. They don’t need to rely on mindless gags or frantic pacing to entertain. You can make something that delights children without boring their parents—and do it all without a single frame of animation. Honestly, I’d watch all three of these films back to back just to spend a day wrapped in their gentle, cheerful spirit.

Out Grade: A-, This is such a fun film—one that’s sure to please a wide range of audiences. It’s a shame more people didn’t catch it in theaters, as it absolutely deserved greater box office success. Still, I had an absolute blast watching it. The humor is light, frequent, and consistently effective, giving the film a breezy, enjoyable rhythm. Antonio Banderas is an excellent—if unexpected—villain, adding just the right touch of flair. In short, this is a movie worth seeing. Don’t miss it.
