Title: Any Day Now
MPA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Eric Aronson
Starring: Paul Guilfoyle, Taylor Gray, Alexandra Templar
Runtime: 1 hr 21 mins

What It Is: Marty (Guilfoyle) is a thief — a master of stolen goods. He’s planning a humongous heist, and like anything worth doing, it’ll take time and cooperation. He enlists Steve (Gray) to help him. But in a game of cat and mouse between a thief and the security guard he needs to make his plan a reality, who can really be trusted? Is Steve getting cold feet? Can Marty actually pull this off?

What We Think: There are some very tense moments here, and the cast as a whole is giving it their all. That being said, I found it entertaining—but not enthralling. It never truly hooked me, despite a really interesting premise. I won’t lie to you: there were parts where I thought, “Man, this could be really good,” and other moments where it just didn’t quite work for me.

I will say the acting was good—not great—and the direction was actually quite strong. No heavy-handedness from Aronson; he seems self-assured, which is something I always respect in a filmmaker.

Our Grade: C-, Nothing too special—just a nice distraction and a perfectly capable film, aside from the unfortunate stumble of its script. The acting is good, but not great. The film’s strongest element is Eric Aronson, who brings everything together quite well. Without his direction, this easily could’ve ended up as straight-to-video schlock—think 2009 Walmart $1 bin.

I’d recommend checking it out if the concept grabs you. Otherwise, there are no surprises and nothing particularly memorable about the whole endeavor. Taylor Gray was much stronger in his previous roles in Renner and Saturday Night—films I found to be much better than this one.
